Perfect Mark is the musical project by Italian-born singer/songwriter, Marco Perfetti. After hitting the Italian music scene, winning national contests, such as the Tour Music Fest, and taking part in the first series of the Italian X-Factor, Marco moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in the US to attend the Berklee College of Music.
Perfect Mark now has a loyal following in Boston, the band recently climbed to number 3 in the ReverbNation Boston Rock Chart. The band has also been selected to perform at the Canadian Music Week Festival this year. The festival will be headlined by Ellie Goulding and The 1975, amongst others.
Listening to the music, it’s not hard to understand why Perfect Mark has achieved the success it has and I think the band has a shiny future ahead. The pop-rock songwriting is sophisticated in the way it blends loud and soft, dark and shade. My favourite aspect of Perfect Mark’s music is that each song blends soft acoustic melodies with punchy, aggressive rock. This blend is done both instrumentally and vocally. It shows the versatility Marco has as a vocalist that his voice is equally suited to singing gentle ballads as it is to gritty rock anthems.
‘World Outside’ opens very calmly with its first verse and chorus. After that the instrumental rocks it up for verse two, whilst the voice remains gentle and sweet. I really like this mix; it prevents the song from becoming too aggressive too quickly. Just before the second chorus, the instrumental quietens down and lets the vocal deliver an edgy lift into the chorus. Very sophisticated song writing, I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating. After the second chorus there’s a guitar solo, before everything decreases in volume to build up to the final chorus. ‘World Outside’ can be found on Perfect Mark’s SoundCloud page https://soundcloud.com/perfectmark.
‘Footprints’ is my favourite song by Perfect Mark. It’s pure, energetic pop-rock. With catchy guitar riffs, good lyrics (which can be read on ReverbNation) and a rock-out chorus, it’s a song you can listen to on repeat. ‘Footprints’ also showcases Marco’s vocal ability at its best. His voice suits the pop-rock genre down to the ground.
‘Light And Water’ and ‘Butterflies You Deserve’ also blend punchy pop-rock with softer sections that pay tribute to Marco’s acoustic side. The lyrics about living life to the full in ‘Butterflies You Deserve’ are a highlight for me, along with the lively instrumental ending.
